Basketball Game Preview: Augusta E Eagles vs. Curtis Baptist Crusaders

The Augusta E Eagles will face off against the Curtis Baptist Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Augusta E will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Augusta E fought the good fight in their overtime match against Milledgeville Athletic Club on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 58-55. One positive for the Eagles, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Curtis Baptist suffered their biggest defeat since November 15, 2024 on Thursday. They were beaten by Hammond 73-27. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 194th in Georgia, while the Skyhawks are ranked 36th in South Carolina).

Despite the loss, Curtis Baptist saw an underclassman step up: freshman Wiltrez (Trez) Mincey went 6 for 9 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

Curtis Baptist has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Augusta E, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Augusta E took their victory against Curtis Baptist when the teams last played back in November of 2017 by a conclusive 65-44. Will Augusta E repeat their success, or does Curtis Baptist have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
