Recap: Farmville Central Jaguars vs. Broughton Capitals

Even though the Broughton Capitals scored an imposing 65 points on Friday, the Farmville Central Jaguars still came out on top. Farmville Central wrapped up 2023 with a 81-65 victory over Broughton. Given Farmville Central's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Broughton is ranked 300th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Farmville Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Whitehurst led the charge by scoring 20 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hampton Evans, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Broughton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Christian Outlaw. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Page, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.

Broughton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Farmville Central's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.18 points. As for Broughton, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Farmville Central and Jordan will face off at 11:00 a.m. on December 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Jordan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday. Broughton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Orange at 4:30 p.m. on December 30th.
