Baseball Game Preview: Nansemond River Warriors vs. Granby Comets

The Nansemond River Warriors will square off against the Granby Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Nansemond River fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lakeland on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 5-4. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Landon Pociask was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Buddy Baker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Konner Johnson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Granby waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 22-1 victory. Considering the Comets have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Granby's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Nansemond River, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
