Recap: Sumner Stingrays vs. Northeast Vikings
The Sumner Stingrays entered their tilt with the Northeast Vikings with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Sumner rang in the new year with a 66-58 win over Northeast on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sumner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Williams, who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, 12 rebounds, and nine blocks. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Douglas, who scored 14 points along with seven assists.
Northeast lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jamaries Conyers, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Conyers' third in a row with at least ten points. Luis Ruiz was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Sumner has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Northeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
Sumner and Berkeley Prep will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Berkeley Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sumner in Florida (Berkeley Prep is ranked 45th, while Sumner is ranked 225th). Northeast and Largo will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
