Softball Recap: West Has No Trouble Against Dawson

West had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dawson Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. The matchup marked the Trojans' most dominant victory of the season.

Laynie Davis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero hits, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last eight contests.

In other batting news, Mabri Warren was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kyla Shoppach also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West's record now sits at 7-9-1. As for Dawson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

West and Dawson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. West will challenge Robinson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 368 places (410 vs. 42). Similarly, Dawson (ranked 808th) will meet Rice (ranked 240th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
