San Diego shot-blocking phenom becomes fourth Top 100 senior headed to Tucson.
Angelo Chol, one of the top uncommitted seniors in the country, announced he is heading to the University of Arizona during a press conference Thursday at
Hoover (San Diego, Calif.) High School.
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward/center is ranked No. 35 in MaxPreps.com's 2011 Top 100 and averaging 23.4 points, 14.8 rebounds and 8.1 blocked shots per game this season at Hoover. He picked the Wildcats over fellow finalists Kansas and North Carolina. Alabama and Washington were eliminated from consideration earlier this week.
Chol stepped to the podium during the announcement and wasted little time declaring his intentions, unzipping his jacket and revealing an Arizona shirt underneath.
A native of Sudan, Chol is just 10 points shy of 2,000 for his career, but will be best remembered for his prowess as a shot-blocker at the high school level. He has swatted 1,080 shots in his career, No. 2 all-time nationally. The future Wildcat erased a single-season national-record 337 attempts as a sophomore in 2008-09.
Chol as accumulated 93 double-doubles and 30 triple-doubles in his four-year career under head coach Ollie Goulston at Hoover.
