Volleyball Recap: Laila Avila Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Tri-County North

Newton Local won the last time they faced Tri-County North and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Indians were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Panthers.

While Newton Local won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-16, 25-23.

Newton Local's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laila Avila led the charge by getting four digs and four aces. That's the most aces Avila has posted over her last seven matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Laughman, who had nine assists and three aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Newton Local was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. They are 7-1 when they serve at least ten aces.

Tri-County North's loss came despite strong showings from Bailey Quinn and Alayna MtCastle. Quinn had six digs and one block, while MtCastle had five assists and three aces.

Newton Local's victory ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 9-9. As for Tri-County North, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Newton Local will square off against Preble Shawnee at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tri-County North, they will take on Yellow Springs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
