Baseball Recap: Devon Prep Comes Up Short

Devon Prep extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Father Judge Crusaders. That's two games in a row now that the Tide have lost by just one run.

Chase Lubker put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Alex Hannah made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those hits were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Caleb Flannery, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

As for Father Judge, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

On Father Judge's side, Kaiden Laverty looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Father Judge let Kevin Krause and Nick Wolf run wild. Krause went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Wolf went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Krause a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan King, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
