Baseball Recap: Rio Hondo Takes a Loss

If Rio Hondo was riding high fresh off their 19-2 takedown of Progreso last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bobcats lost 9-3 to the Lyford Bulldogs on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.

Rio Hondo got a good showing from Adrian Betancourt, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Ruben Castellanos made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Rio Hondo dropped their record down to 14-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Lyford, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Hondo will host Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lyford, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Santa Rosa at 6:00 p.m. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.92 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
