Basketball Game Preview: Monterey Wildcats vs. Van Buren County Eagles

Monterey is 1-9 against Van Buren County since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Monterey Wildcats will challenge the Van Buren County Eagles at 6:00 p.m.

Monterey is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday. They were dealt a 70-27 loss at the hands of Smith County. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-14.

Gracie Burgess was Monterey's leading scorer, having posted six points. Haylee Trevathan held things down on the boards with six rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Van Buren County). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Whitwell 74-34. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season.

Van Buren County pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Monterey, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.

Monterey might still be hurting after the 59-37 loss they got from Van Buren County in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can Monterey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
