Football Recap: Taylor County Bulldogs vs. Maclay Marauders

There's no place like home for Taylor County, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They walked away with a 35-28 victory over the Maclay Marauders on Friday. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 35-34 loss the last time these two teams met.

A big part of Taylor County's win came down to the chemistry between Knyon Simmons and his top target Dj Mccoy. Simmons picked up 150 receiving yards and a touchdown while Mccoy rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Simmons also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending a pass.

Taylor County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 235 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maclay only rushed for 75.

Defeat or not, Maclay got some senior leadership from George Grant and Nash Beshears. Grant threw for 234 yards and four touchdowns, while Beshears picked up 125 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Beshears is becoming a predictor of Maclay's success: when he posts at least 100 receiving yards the team is 5-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Taylor County's record now sits at 7-2. As for Maclay, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-3.

Taylor County will venture away from home to challenge Gadsden County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Gadsden County will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Taylor County surely won't give up without a fight. Maclay does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
