Softball Game Preview: Houston Hilltoppers vs. Starkville Yellowjackets

The Houston Hilltoppers will head out on the road to face off against the Starkville Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Houston has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Houston came up short against Calhoun City and fell 12-7.

Houston saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Kendall, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Jaylen Brassfield also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Starkville's offense. They came up short against Grenada on Friday, falling 10-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Yellowjackets were not able to get on the board.

Starkville has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Houston, their loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-17.

Houston couldn't quite get it done against Starkville in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 6-1. Can the Hilltoppers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
