The Carlinville Cavaliers will head out to square off against the Carrollton Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Carlinville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Wednesday, Carlinville needed a bit of extra time to put away Hillsboro. They skirted past the Hiltoppers 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Hiltoppers: they've now won six in a row.
Meanwhile, Carrollton strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Marquette Catholic as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 20 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Lauren Flowers made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Hannah Uhles was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Brookelyn Eilerman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Carrollton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 25 consecutive games.
Carrollton pushed their record up to 26-0 with the win, which was their 32nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Carlinville, their record is now 12-8.
Carlinville came out on top in a nail-biter against Carrollton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
