The Pontotoc Warriors will square off against the New Hope Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pontotoc has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while New Hope will come in with nine straight wins.
On Friday, Pontotoc didn't have quite enough to beat Eupora and fell 5-3.
Jaz Cuellar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, New Hope won against Corinth on Thursday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Trojans came out on top against Hamilton by a score of 10-6. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Ava Mordecai spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lexi McBrayer and Kaselyn Harcrow did most of the damage at the plate: McBrayer scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Harcrow went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Harcrow a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tatum McBride, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
New Hope kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.
New Hope's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.
Pontotoc was able to grind out a solid victory over New Hope in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
