Basketball Game Preview: Lancaster Golden Gales vs. Reynoldsburg Raiders

Lancaster hasn't had much luck against Reynoldsburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lancaster Golden Gales will host the Reynoldsburg Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While Lancaster didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They escaped with a win on Saturday against Horizon Science Academy by the margin of a single free throw, 60-59. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Gales.

Meanwhile, Reynoldsburg put another one in the bag on Sunday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 80-65 victory over Richmond Heights. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Spartans are ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lancaster is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Reynoldsburg, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.

Lancaster was dealt a bruising 82-51 defeat at the hands of Reynoldsburg in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Lancaster avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
