Recap: Amherst Broncos vs. Elm Creek Buffaloes

On Friday, the Amherst Broncos's game was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 64-52 win over Elm Creek. Given Amherst's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Elm Creek is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amherst had a senior duo take command as Tayje Hadwiger dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds and Austin Adelung scored 23 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hadwiger has scored at least a third of Amherst's points. Braylon Russell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.

Elm Creek lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Quin Oberg, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Oberg has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nikk Brumels, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Amherst pushed their record up to 19-2 with that win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Elm Creek, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Amherst will take on Broken Bow at TBD on Friday. Hopefully Amherst focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. As for Elm Creek, they will be playing at home against Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Elm Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
