Basketball Recap: Lumberton Piles Up the Points Against Gray's Creek

There's no place like home for Lumberton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They really took it to the Gray's Creek Bears for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-43 victory. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 22 points or more this season.

Lumberton was led to victory by Amare Jones and Jaiden Shephard. Jones almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds, while Shephard dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 boards. The game was Shephard's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lonnie Porter, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.

Lumberton was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray's Creek only racked up five assists.

Gray's Creek's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ezekiel Reed, who posted eight points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Another player making a difference was Quion Andrews, who put up ten points.

Lumberton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.2 points per game. As for Gray's Creek, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7.

When Lumberton and Gray's Creek next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Lumberton will try to stop Seventy-First's seven-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Lumberton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. Similarly, Gray's Creek will try to stop South View's four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
