Baseball Game Preview: Socorro Warriors vs. New Mexico Military Institute Colts

The Socorro Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the New Mexico Military Institute Colts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Socorro is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Dexter 23-11 on Thursday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

David Gutierrez was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two triples, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Mercado, who got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Gutierrez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Socorro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for New Mexico Military Institute, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They never let Shiprock get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Thursday. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Colts this season.

Socorro now has a winning record of 3-2. As for New Mexico Military Institute, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
