The Bob Jones Patriots will head out to face off against the Austin Black Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Bob Jones has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Austin will arrive with six straight wins.
Things were looking good for Bob Jones after they put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 19-5 to Florence. Patriots fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Falcons since on Tuesday.
Maddie Gordon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Austin got themselves on the board against James Clemens on Tuesday, but James Clemens never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Jets with a sharp 12-0 victory. Considering the Black Bears have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Lamb made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 13 matches.
In other batting news, Austin got a massive performance out of Arden Breedlove, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Breedlove has posted over her last 13 games. Another player making a difference was Amiya Garth, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Austin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Clemens only posted an OBP of .125.
Austin's record is now 30-12-1. As for Bob Jones, their loss dropped their record down to 8-25.
Bob Jones suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Austin when the teams last played back in March. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
