Basketball Recap: Raymondville Takes a Loss

Raymondville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 67-63 heartbreaker at the hands of the Santa Rosa Warriors. The Bearkats lost against the Warriors in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 110-45 score last time.

Despite the loss, Raymondville still got an impressive performance from Colt Cavazos, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Cavazos is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Mendez, who went 6 of 13 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Raymondville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive games.

Raymondville's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Santa Rosa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Raymondville will square off against IDEA Riverview at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Raymondville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season. As for Santa Rosa, they will welcome IDEA Robindale at 5:30 p.m. on January 7th.
