Basketball Recap: Salem Hills Comes Up Short

Salem Hills lost against Springville back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Salem Hills Skyhawks came up short against the Springville Red Devils, falling 72-50. While losing is never fun, the Skyhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Red Devils are ranked 17th).

When it comes to explaining why Salem Hills lost, don't look at Kade Moser. Despite the final result, he went 11 of 19 en route to 30 points along with six boards and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Moser a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Beck, who posted five points.

Springville was led to victory by Andrew Miller and Jamyn Sondrup. Miller went 11 for 23 on his way to 31 points and five assists, while Sondrup dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Sondrup's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Asher Mark was another key player, putting up seven points.

This is the second loss in a row for Salem Hills and nudges their season record down to 7-12. As for Springville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Salem Hills has already played their next contest, a 71-63 win against Spanish Fork on the 4th. As for Springville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-49 victory against Maple Mountain on the 4th.
