Basketball Game Preview: Hawthorne Math & Science Academy The Aviators vs. Wildwood Wolves

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy and Wildwood are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Hawthorne Math & Science Academy The Aviators will head out on the road to square off against the Wildwood Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Monday, Hawthorne Math & Science Academy ended up a good deal behind Vistamar and lost 61-46. While losing is never fun, the The Aviators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 985th, while the Vikings are ranked 476th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wildwood). They enjoyed a cozy 62-44 win over New Roads on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Wolves as they're now sitting on three straight.

Wildwood had a senior duo take command as Zane Bryant went 8 of 12 en route to 20 points and Ike Moore went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points and five boards. Moore also put up three assists, which werehis first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jonah Spitz, who posted three points along with seven assists, six rebounds, and four steals.

Wildwood was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Wildwood, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-9.

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Wildwood in their previous meeting two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 49-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hawthorne Math & Science Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
