Softball Recap: Rensselaer Central Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lafayette Central Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rensselaer Central). They were the clear victors by a 25-4 margin over the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights on Friday. The Bombers have beaten the Knights the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

Kali Northcutt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Brooke Koebcke was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two triples, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynn Hannon, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.

Rensselaer Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .629. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Rensselaer Central's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rensselaer Central will challenge Kankakee Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, they will face off against Twin Lakes at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
