Baseball Game Preview: Towanda Black Knights vs. Wellsboro Hornets

Towanda hasn't had much luck against Wellsboro recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Towanda will face off against Wellsboro at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Towanda is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Mansfield on Tuesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (10-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Towanda saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Wheaton, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Wellsboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Athens, falling 16-10. Even if the Hornets couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Alec Magli made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Cameron Owlett also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Wellsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Towanda, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Towanda couldn't quite get it done against Wellsboro when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Towanda avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
