Football Preview: Salida Spartans vs. Woodland Park Panthers

The Salida Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Woodland Park Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Salida is leaving town to face Woodland Park after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Salida fell to Buena Vista 24-19. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Demons recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Woodland Park got themselves on the board against Lincoln on Saturday, but Lincoln never followed suit. They blew past the Lancers, posting a 62-0 victory at home.

Marqus Joseph Schoenberger was a one-man wrecking crew for Woodland Park as he rushed for 71 yards and six touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 74 yards and a touchdown while completing 85.7% of his passes. Trey Reed was another key player, rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.

Woodland Park wouldn't let Lincoln keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. Woodland Park can thank Matteo Pizarro and Kadyn Lewis for forcing all of them. Pizarro also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing two fumbles and making five total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Salida strolled past Woodland Park in their previous matchup back in September of 2023 by a score of 16-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salida since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
