Softball Recap: Apopka Has No Trouble Against Boone

Apopka made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Boone, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went the Apopka Blue Darters' way against the Boone Braves on Friday as the Apopka Blue Darters made off with a 15-3 win. Considering the Blue Darters have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Millspaugh and Sydney Bartkin were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Millspaugh pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bartkin pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Furthermore, Millspaugh didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Millspaugh scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Bartkin scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Bartkin is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Smith, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ava Gonzalez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Apopka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

Apopka's record is now 5-1. As for Boone, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apopka will square off against Lake Mary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Boone, they will host Lake Nona at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boone has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
