Softball Recap: Carmel Comes Up Short

Carmel had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-16 to make it four. They came up short against the Fishers Tigers, falling 12-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Greyhounds were not able to get on the board.

As for Fishers, their win bumped their record up to 12-7. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Fishers' part, Kate Murray and Frankie Jackson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Murray tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jackson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Murray got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Jackson went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Murray a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brooke Clayton and Hailey Kinder did most of the damage at the plate: Clayton went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Kinder went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave Clayton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Shockley, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carmel will welcome Terre Haute North Vigo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fishers, they will be playing at home against Franklin Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Flashes will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
