Baseball Recap: Cedar Springs Beats Hastings for Their Third Straight Win

Cedar Springs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hastings Saxons a 5-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-5 on Friday.

Callen McCulloch was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Quinton Bell was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

Cedar Springs' victory bumped their record up to 7-21. As for Hastings, they are on an 18-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-23.

Cedar Springs and Hastings could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Red Hawks (ranked 356th) will meet Coopersville (ranked 15th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hastings will challenge Western at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (526 vs. 254).
