Football Game Preview: Ozona Lions vs. Christoval Cougars

Ozona and Christoval are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Lions will be playing at home against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ozona knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Christoval likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Ozona didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Forsan, but they still walked away with a 46-40 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Buffaloes: they've now won three in a row.

Christian Villarreal was his usual excellent self, rushing for 411 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and also picking up 53 receiving yards. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 92-yard run.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ozona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 423 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 196 rushing yards in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.

Ozona didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Villarreal and Jp Garza. Villarreal's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 113 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Christoval came up short against Sonora on Friday, falling 38-14. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Although Christoval took the loss, they still got scores from Isreal Bogs and Ty Debusk.

Ozona's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Christoval, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
