Basketball Game Preview: Spurger Pirates vs. Brookeland Wildcats

Spurger hasn't had much luck against Brookeland recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spurger Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Brookeland Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Spurger is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Leggett: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Spurger blew Leggett out of the water with an 89-30 final score. The victory was nothing new for Spurger as they're now sitting on three straight.

Hull-Daisetta typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Brookeland proved too difficult a challenge. They took their contest with ease, bagging an 81-33 win over the Bobcats. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Brookeland is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 92.3 points per game. As for Spurger, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.

Spurger took a serious blow against Brookeland in their previous meeting back in January, falling 99-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brookeland's Landon Smith, who went 18 for 25 en route to 43 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. Now that Spurger knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
