After coming back to defeat Katy in last year's title game, there's been nothing but positive vibes surrounding the Longhorns' program. The team debuted at No. 1 nationally in the MaxPreps Preseason Top 25 Early Contenders. An explosive offense and a seasoned defense will equip Cedar Hill for another deep playoff run.

2. Allen
2013 finish: 15-0; Division 5A-I state champion
Head coach: Tom Westerberg

Reigning MaxPreps National Player of the Year Kyler Murray is back for Tom Westerberg's squad, which seeks its third-consecutive Class 5A-I state title. The Eagles feature just one returning starter on defense, but there are plenty of capable replacements waiting in the wings. A No. 1 national finish is within sight once again this year.

3. Katy
2013 finish: 15-1
Head coach: Gary Joseph
Team preview

Though they came up short against Cedar Hill last year, there are plenty of reasons to think that this year's rendition of the Tigers will be back playing for another state title. Garrett Doiron will assume starting quarterback duties, while Rodney Anderson and Kyle Porter return in the backfield. Last year's defense was young, this year's is experienced.

4. DeSoto
2013 finish: 14-1
Head coach: Claude Mathis

DeSoto has lost twice in the last two seasons, with Allen dealing each setback. The program has yet to win a state title, but under Mathis, it has shown it is a true contender capable of reloading. Dez White is gone, but talented junior Tristen Wallace should be a more-than-adequate replacement at quarterback. Its showdown with Cedar Hill could be the game of the year.

5. Manvel
2013 finish: 12-2
Head coach: Kirk Martin
Team preview

In 2013, Manvel was young, talented and explosive. This fall, it will be experienced, even more talented and potentially even more explosive. D'Eriq King threw for 2,628 yards and 36 touchdowns as a sophomore last season. Social media superstar Gary Haynes, a junior last year, caught 13 of them. Junior safety Deontay Anderson has superstar potential.
