Basketball Game Preview: Jones County Greyhounds vs. Putnam County War Eagles

The Jones County Greyhounds will take on the Putnam County War Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Jones County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They fell to Southwest 71-66. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while the Patriots are ranked 42nd).

Meanwhile, Putnam County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 61-51 victory over Thomson. The 61-point effort marked the War Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Putnam County's win came from a few key players Jones County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jmari Greene, who went 8 for 20 on his way to 19 points. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Jaylin Harper was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 11 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Putnam County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Jones County dropped their record down to 2-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Putnam County, their win bumped their record up to 14-0.

Things could have been worse for Jones County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-49 loss to Putnam County when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can Jones County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
