Basketball Recap: Salina Central Takes a Loss

Salina Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a hard 46-31 fall against the Arkansas City Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-43 back in January.

Arkansas City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Phillips led the charge by going 7-for-17 en route to 18 points and five boards. Saliyah Henderson-Johnson was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Salina Central's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Arkansas City, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salina Central will challenge Eisenhower at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arkansas City, they will face off against Andover at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Andover is on a five-game streak of home wins, Arkansas City a eight-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
