Evangel Christian hadn't done well against Bessemer Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Evangel Christian Lightning narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bessemer Academy Rebels 5-3. The win was nothing new for the Lightning as they're now sitting on three straight.

Lilli Whitfield was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also stole a stolen base, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Cranford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Evangel Christian's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Bessemer Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.

Evangel Christian didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 7-5 win against Coosa Valley Academy on the 28th. As for Bessemer Academy, they will welcome Fort Dale Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
