Softball Recap: Wewahitchka Takes a Loss

Wewahitchka was the 11-0 winner over Vernon when they last played one another back in April of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Gators fell just short of the Yellowjackets by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. Gators fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Yellowjackets since on Tuesday.

Laiken Ferrell and Paityn Suber did some serious damage despite the final result: Ferrell went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Suber scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Aubry Bailey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Wewahitchka has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Vernon, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wewahitchka will venture away from home to square off against Altha at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Gators surely won't give up without a fight. As for Vernon, they will head out to challenge Bozeman at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
