Baseball Game Preview: Punxsutawney Chucks vs. Indiana Little Indians

The Punxsutawney Chucks are taking a road trip to square off against the Indiana Little Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are still undefeated after five games, but that won't be the case come Thursday.

Punxsutawney made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Tyrone, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Chucks blew past the Golden Eagles 14-2 on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Chucks' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Nevin Day made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Silverstein, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Nate Kendrick was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Punxsutawney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tyrone only posted a batting average of .167.

Meanwhile, Indiana made easy work of Highlands on Tuesday and carried off a 10-3 win. Considering the Little Indians have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Indiana's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Punxsutawney, their record now sits at 5-0.

Punxsutawney skirted past Indiana 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chucks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
