Preview: Algonquin Regional Titans vs. St. Paul Knights
Algonquin Regional has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the St. Paul Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Algonquin Regional opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-50 defeat to Shrewsbury. While losing is never fun, Algonquin Regional can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Shrewsbury is ranked 19th).
Meanwhile, St. Paul pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Burncoat. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Paul in their matchups with Burncoat: they've now lost three in a row.
Algonquin Regional bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. Paul, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5.
Algonquin Regional took their victory against St. Paul in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 65-45. Will Algonquin Regional repeat their success, or does St. Paul have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
