Softball Recap: Piedmont Hills Beats Pioneer for Their Sixth Straight Win

Piedmont Hills won against Christopher on Wednesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Pioneer Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 12 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ava Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Piedmont Hills let Leilani Ortiz and Isabella Paskert run wild. Ortiz went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Paskert went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Paskert has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Danie Pacheco, who earned one RBI, one run, and three stolen bases.

The win was the sixth in a row for Piedmont Hills, bringing their record up to 16-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Pioneer, they dropped their record down to 5-13 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Piedmont Hills is set to challenge their familiar foe Prospect at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pirates 2.6, the Panthers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Pioneer will take on rival Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
