League recap: Northlake Christian extends winning streak with victory over Springfield

Northlake Christian extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 8 this week by beating Springfield, 28-18. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Wolverines.

Northlake Christian moved up to 106 from 138 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Anthony Agresta's team was able to move up by besting the Bulldogs 28-18.

Archbishop Hannan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Korey Zeigler threw for 201 and 3 touchdowns and Daniel Hollander had 110 yards receiving. On the ground Michael Froeba chipped in 180 yards. Jason Brooks helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 91 yards.

The Hawks' dynamic duo of Zeigler and Hollander proved to be unstoppable against Pine, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brooks helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 91 yards.

He went 17-20 with 1 interception.

6-foot-4 quarterback Josh O'Rear of the Wolverines is the league leader in passing yards this season with 449. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brooks. The Archbishop Hannan star has 20 catches for 188 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pope John Paul II takes on Archbishop Hannan. The Jaguars are in third place, while pat lambert's team is in second place.

Mt. Hermon lost to St. Helena Central 60-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jack Brister was a bright spot for the Yellowjackets, as he ran for 21 yards in the loss.
