Draughn has gone a perfect 6-0 against Mountain Heritage recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Draughn came out on top against Enka last Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run third inning. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Jets with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Griffin Stephens made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Stephens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Mull, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Gage Dula was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Draughn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Mountain Heritage put up plenty of runs last Thursday, the same can't be said for Avery County. The Cougars blew past the Vikings 18-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Like Draughn, Mountain Heritage also got a great game from a two-way player: Carter Bennett. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Bennett also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mountain Heritage is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Bennett was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Cason Jones was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Mountain Heritage: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 3-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Carrol, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Draughn has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Mountain Heritage, their record now sits at 7-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Draughn has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Draughn was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain Heritage in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 9-6. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
