Baseball Recap: DeKalb County Comes Up Short

DeKalb County had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 8-11 to make it four. They lost 11-4 to Macon County. DeKalb County was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Macon County earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

As for Macon County, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 17-9-1. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

For Macon County's part, Roman Brawner got the start for Macon County and what a start it was: he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brawner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. Eli Carver relieved him and did a solid job, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gage Jones, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last six games. Matthew Wheeley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. DeKalb County will challenge Monterey at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Macon County, they will square off against Friendship Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.7, the Commanders 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
