Basketball Game Preview: Skyridge Falcons vs. Mesquite Wildcats

Having just played yesterday, the Skyridge Falcons will jump right back in to play the Mesquite Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Skyridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.

Skyridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Kellis, who was ranked fifth in their home state at the time (Skyridge was ranked 25th). Skyridge secured a 51-47 W over Kellis on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Skyridge got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lillian Meyer out in front who posted 12 points in addition to five assists and five boards. That's the most assists Meyer has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellah Oeser, who put up eight points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Mesquite put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 66-37 victory over Clayton Valley Charter. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 24 points or more this season.

Mesquite's win came from a few key players Skyridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Navae Guidry, who went 10 of 16 on her way to 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Her evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Fisher, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards.

Mesquite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Skyridge's record is now 6-4. As for Mesquite, their record is now 12-0.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Skyridge has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mesquite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 boards.
