Recap: Cordova Lancers vs. Natomas Nighthawks
After flying high against the Florin Panthers last Friday, The Cordova Lancers came back down to earth. Cordova took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Natomas. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cordova in their matchups with Natomas: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Cordova lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Ryce. Despite the final result, he rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes. Ryce's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruvim Kravchuk, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Natomas' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Hendricks, who rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 73 receiving yards. Jaylen Melvin was another key contributor, throwing for 235 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Cordova's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Natomas, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cordova will take on Johnson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Johnson and Cordova are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Natomas, they will be playing at home against Foothill at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Foothill is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
