Basketball Recap: Golden Valley Cougars vs. El Capitan Gauchos

The Golden Valley Cougars's found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Atwater Falcons on Wednesday. Golden Valley strolled past the Gauchos with points to spare, taking the game 57-40. For Golden Valley, this counts as revenge for the 66-63 defeat the Gauchos walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Golden Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ricardo Perez, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Spielman, who scored 13 points.

Despite the loss, El Capitan still got an impressive performance from Ian Vasquez Gomez, who scored six points.

Golden Valley pushed their record up to 18-8 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.1 points per game. As for El Capitan, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-10.

Golden Valley will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Valley is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for El Capitan, they will be playing at home against the Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Patterson's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
