Baseball Recap: Seventy-First Takes a Loss

Seventy-First extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They lost 19-4 to the Freedom Christian Academy Patriots. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 16-0 to the Patriots when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cory Bush was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Shawn Carroll was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Freedom Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.4 runs.

On Freedom Christian Academy's side, Andrew Corney and Graysen Stafford did most of the damage at the plate: Corney got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Stafford went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Corney has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolby Sherer, who earned three runs.

Looking ahead, Seventy-First will challenge Wake Christian Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Freedom Christian Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against East Bladen at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
