Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Highlands' 19th in Last 20 Outings

Highlands won against Walton-Verona on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Everything went the Bluebirds' way against the Ryle Raiders as they made off with an 11-1 win. Considering the Bluebirds have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaitlyn Dixon spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on zero hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Highlands got a big performance out of Morgan Pompilio, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Pompilio has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cam Markus, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Highlands hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.

Highlands has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Ryle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-7-1.

Highlands didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 win against Dayton on the 18th. As for Ryle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Boone County on the 18th.
