Preview: Jamestown Eagles vs. Lafayette Rams

Jamestown has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Lafayette Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jamestown has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 883 points over their last 13 matches.

Last Thursday, Jamestown didn't have too much trouble with Poquoson at home as they won 66-47. Given Jamestown's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Poquoson is ranked 159th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jamestown found their leader in underclassman Maddie Leach, who scored 28 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Leach has scored at least a third of Jamestown's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raini Mayo, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Lafayette scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Smithfield 77-27 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Lafayette has posted yet this season.

Dynasti Pierce went supernova for Lafayette, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 12 steals. Pierce is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was MaKayla Keys, who scored 12 points along with four steals.

Jamestown pushed their record up to 13-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Lafayette, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Everything came up roses for Jamestown against Lafayette when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 61-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jamestown since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
