Baseball Recap: Gray Collegiate Academy Takes a Loss

If Gray Collegiate Academy was feeling good fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Dreher on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The War Eagles fell just short of the Cheraw Braves by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The War Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2015.

JP Sweatt and Garrett Blankenship stepped up to the plate in a big way. Sweatt went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Blankenship went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Blankenship is becoming a predictor of Gray Collegiate Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't).

Gray Collegiate Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Cheraw, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Gray Collegiate Academy is taking a road trip to take on Dreher at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cheraw, they will welcome Sumter at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
