Recap: Benson Bobcats vs. Morenci Wildcats
The Benson Bobcats were the 63-37 winner over the Morenci Wildcats when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Benson fell 53-41 to Morenci on Monday. Benson has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Despite the loss, Benson still got an impressive performance from Jamey Darwin, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The game was Darwin's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaylei Taylor, who scored six points along with 14 rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Benson were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morenci only pulled down 22 offensive rebounds.
Morenci found their leader in underclassman Tiara Jones, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Leonard, who scored 15 points along with six steals.
Benson's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for Morenci, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Benson will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on The Gregory School at 5:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Morenci and St. David will round out the year against one another at 1:30 p.m. on December 27th at. St. David is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
