Recap: Cornerstone Christian Eagles vs. Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers

On Friday, The Cornerstone Christian Eagles faced the Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cornerstone Christian was beaten by Southern Prep Academy 56-21. Cornerstone Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Although Cornerstone Christian took the loss, they still got scores from Brody Barksdale, Trey Stewart, and Jake Nelson.

Leading Southern Prep Academy to victory were Kevin Mason and Jahziyah Anderson. Mason rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while Anderson rushed for 223 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry. Caleb Cole was another key contributor, rushing for 59 yards and a touchdown.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Cornerstone Christian to a paltry 242 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Southern Prep Academy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Cornerstone Christian's QB won't forget Anderson anytime soon given Anderson sacked him four times.

Cornerstone Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Southern Prep Academy, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cornerstone Christian will take on Russell Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Russell Christian Academy is ranked 12th in Mississippi, while Cornerstone Christian is ranked 20th in Alabama). As for Southern Prep Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evangel Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.
